myGengo Awarded 5.25M in Funding to Enhance Chat Translation Services

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

myGengo, a startup company that provides customized chat translation services, has just received $5.25 million in Series A funding from London-based venture capital firm Atomico (News - Alert) and 500 Startups. myGengo’s mission is to provide “human translation services at scale.”

Compiling a group of over 3,000 translators located throughout the world, who work on a freelance basis through myGengo’s software program, the company serves clients directly, and also has an API to let other startups include myGengo’s translation services in their apps, an article revealed.

myGengo’s target audience is people and businesses who require high-quality, fast translation services, but don’t want to have to spend the capital needed to keep an in-house translator.

myGengo is extremely cost-effective, actually costing around 5 cents per word in a typical situation, due to two reasons, which the company reveals on its website. “Many professional translators use myGengo as a backup where they do some work when they are between larger projects. They accept a lower compensation for the convenience. Plus, we avoid a lot of office related costs.” Usually, myGengo can complete an entire project in between 1 hour and 16 hours per page.

The company has also announced plans to utilize the new funding to grow within the United States. “myGengo is going to be the number one way for companies to go global and communicate with foreign audiences,” myGengo CEO Rob Laing said in a statement. “We’re confident in our market, so we’re growing our engineering, sales and marketing teams to reach new customers in the U.S. and Asia.”
