TMCnet Chat Translation Week in Review

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Businesses all around the world are seeing multiple benefits related to leveraging chat translation technology and this week there were a few more solutions introduced to the industry.

TransFire xP is an innovative chat translation app available on the iPhone (News - Alert) that can instantly translate 50 plus languages in real-time, allowing multilingual users to gain access to instant messaging, social networking and gaming.

“TransFire isn’t just meant to overcome language barriers. It’s a slick social networking app that sees barriers as opportunities,” Jonathan Topolosky, TNT co-founder said in a statement.

In essence, the app has the ability to display an instant message saying “Happy Birthday” and if the intended recipient speaks Spanish the chat translation solution will automatically send the translated message “Feliz Cumpleaños.”

Additionally, some other apps are making their way into the chat translation realm this week including Jibbigo, Speech Trans and Word Lens. Jibbigo acts as a speech-to-speech translation app that contains over 40,000 words and includes a dictionary. Speech Trans is also a speech-to-speech translator which has voice recognition functionality provided by Nuance (News - Alert) and lets users speak status updates directly to their social networking application, while Word Lens translates printed words through a picture.  So if you are traveling abroad and see a sign but have no idea what it says, you just take a picture of it and the app will send the picture back with the translation attached in the language selected.

In related news, Geofluent a chat translation platform powered by Lionbridge sets itself apart from the competition due to the fact that it is a customizable chat translation software solution which can be integrated with chat scripts, logs, translation memories and other glossaries. This allows the chat translation tool to retain the information it receives and simultaneously expands its knowledge base.

Geofluent helps to break down language barriers and allows a company to expand its global footprint all over the world. In fact, the platform has the ability to assist companies in leveraging vital Web marketing materials such as eSupport, knowledge bases, support forums and corporate blogs and accurately transform them into the fluent language of their customers.
