Chat Translation: Exotic Language Translation Services Continue to Increase in Popularity

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

According to Ethnologue, there are 6,909 living languages in the world. Language translation providers are continuously tasked with the challenge of eliminating linguistics barriers in the world and the emergence of new types of translation services including message and chat translation services show the great potential lying in this area of business.

Recently Nina Ivanichvili, CEO of the Colorado-based language translations company All Language Alliance, said the demand for the translation of exotic and lesser known languages has been rising sharply within the last few years.

All Language Alliance has identified some of the special segments where there is great demand for translation services for these languages which include medical interpreting, legal translations and business interpretations.

According to the company, some of the lesser known languages offered for medical interpretation, legal translation, deposition interpretation and business translations services languages are Dari, Hmong, Laotian, Burmese, Igbo, Nepali, Twi, Marshallese, Pashto, Chuukese, Fulani, Ewe, Swahili, and Punjabi – among many others. The demand for translation service indicates that the divide between cultures is disappearing and communication platforms such as chat translation are helping them to occur.  “Ultimately, that’s what this is all about – communication – the most vital resource we have as human beings,” Ivanichvili said in a statement.

Language translation is emerging as a great career opportunity too.  Growth in communications channels, especially the growth of social media, has popularized chat translation services. Businesses use chat translation services to communicate with their foreign customers via their desktop or mobile devices.

The company revealed, however, that there is scarcity for expert language translators. The latest Census report states that only 9 percent of Americans speak a second language. Additionally, a recent Texas Department of Education study indicates that fewer schools in the U.S. offer foreign language courses today than just 10 years ago. All of these factors indicate that there will be huge demand for language translation providers in the future.

“There’s a great deal of opportunity in the field of language translations, and this opportunity is almost certainly going to continue to grow each year,” Ivanichvili added. “In fact, we’ve hired new translators just to handle languages that were far less common than the mainstream foreign legal translations and on-site medical interpretations that we do.”
