FiberMedia Works to Expand its Data Center Services

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

FiberMedia is a data center services company that provides three distinct services: colocation, managed services and cloud. It has been a busy summer for the company, which has been moving to expand its business, achieving a new certification and rolling out a new customer acquisition strategy dubbed “Project Velocity.”

According to Michael Bucheit, CEO of FiberMedia, the company seeks to get certified in areas that help it serve its customers, typically in the media, healthcare and financial services verticals. It seeks certification for its facilities and processes as well as industry-specific certifications. Recently, FiberMedia achieved SSAE 16 certification. This certification is essentially an update of SAS (News - Alert) 70 certification, and was therefore necessary for FiberMedia. It accredits the facility and processes for colocation, looking at matters of security, financial control, etc. Bucheit pointed out that FiberMedia exceeded all specifications across all six of its data centers. The company also achieved SOC accreditation for its cloud services.

In an exclusive interview with TMC (News - Alert), Bucheit also highlighted his company’s other recent announcement, its brand new “Project Velocity.” This initiative, according to Bucheit, is focused on reaching out to the agent community, tapping into a pool of thousands of agents that can bring in business. By agents, he means everyone from individual IT consultants to consulting organizations to aggregators of demand on the Internet. He even means companies that design and build data centers and real estate agents, too.

Looking at the data center services market, a recent Gartner (News - Alert) report stated that 80 percent of computers sit on corporate data centers while 20 percent are outsourced to third-party providers. FiberMedia will tell companies how to move from an in house value proposition to an outsource or cloud value proposition, since most companies are forced to manage all three. By moving from in-house to an outsourced or cloud model, companies can then be free to concentrate on their own businesses, say selling clothing instead of maintaining a retail website, and cut down on costs. FIberMedia can manage what is not part of the client’s core competency, but is still critical to success.
