TMCnet Cloud Data Center Week in Review

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

Many enterprises today are implementing the cloud, or considering shifting to the cloud, to gain the benefits of multi-tenant, hosted resources whether it’s based on software, platforms or infrastructure.

Savvis, a company specializing in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions, has signed a strategic agreement with Singapore Exchange to provide dual-site hosting capabilities to financial services clients.

With this plan coming to effect, both Savvis and SGX Clients will now enjoy enterprise-Class IT infrastructure solutions and low-latency connectivity access.

Financial services clients can now have a single point of contact for a suite of Singapore-based IT infrastructure solutions that includes managed hosting, colocation and network services, and low latency connectivity to market services. To read more about this new partnership, click here.

Cloud data center solutions not only provide results for optimized physical infrastructures, but also enable organizations to be more responsive, improve operational efficiency and increase strategic relevance to their business. TMCnet was there this week to report on all the latest cloud data center news. Here are a few highlights:

Selling cloud server space in the same stall with retail products like books, movies and games might sound like a ridiculous and desperate way to make money. This is not the case for Amazon. The giant online marketplace for retail and wholesale of a wide variety of products has now moved to augment its trade in the rental of virtual servers, storage and other tools for building and hosting online software applications, TMCnet reported.

The seamless integration of these two independent market goods heavily relies on the fact that the technology powering Amazon’s retail operations is all that Amazon needed to drive the cloud server services. The symbiotic relationship between the two also extends to the level of interoperability of selling maximization ideas from either side of the coin. In bid to gain more from these split functionalities, Amazon recently released a new combination of its operational practices. To read more about these methodologies, click here.

A successful, cloud data center depends on many things, yet the most critical component of implementing any cloud data center relies heavily on the solid physical infrastructure of the business. Without that, companies will find deploying the cloud data center difficult, time consuming and hard on the pocketbook.

The reality is that most companies are making the switch to the cloud to save money in the first place. They are driven to the cloud because of the increase in demands on their existing data centers. The environment is ripe for the increased adoption of the cloud data center.
