As cloud-based services continue to grow in popularity, companies that specialize in the technology are actually growing in size and scope. Pittsburg-based Expedient, a cloud services company, just announced its plans to double the current space taken up by one of its data centers.
The firm has announced a project that will grow its Pittsburgh data center to 8,000 square feet.
To increase the company’s operations, the project will reportedly take about six months to complete at the cost of several million dollars. This particular data center will be rated as top of the line, and include features such as two 2,200 kw generators, as well as 500 tons of cooling power and four UPS systems.
The data center will be linked to Expedient’s other data centers via a fiber network.
The growth of cloud-based services has led to several companies taking different approaches to making their offerings that much better. Some companies have looked for new technology to offer a better service, while others like Expedient have focused more on assembling bigger and better facilities, to offer services to more customers with fewer outages.
“We expect next year will be a continuation of our record growth year in 2012. Much of our success in Pittsburgh is attributed to being headquartered here and having many talented people who have become part of the local technology community,” said Shawn McGorry, president and COO at Expedient.
Expedient has branch locations in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, in addition to its Pennsylvania headquarters. It also has sites in Indianapolis, Boston and Baltimore.
