Wooga Selects EXASOL's Data Warehouse Appliance to Analyze Consumer Data

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Wooga recently announced it is using the new Data Warehouse Appliance from EXASOL to derive more information about the level of satisfaction of its expanding customer base. With the new analysis platform, Wooga can now easily and quickly analyse data of its user community for social games.

Wooga is a specialist in gaming software, based in Berlin.

In a statement, Markus Steinkamp, head of Business Intelligence at Wooga, said, "For our strategic direction, it was important to introduce a database that will also permit a selection of suitable BI tools at a later date. We regularly add new functions to our games. To evaluate how these are being received, we have to analyse our customer's game behaviour in real time.”

“Good scaleability, rapid loading speed and the possibility of being able to use a variety of fast analytical functions and aggregation functions are important requirements that the new solution should demonstrate," he added.

As the company's consumer base grows, the volume of data collected has been expanding as well. Wooga therefore sought a robust analysis platform to explore this data quickly.

Previously, the company used a MySQL solution. But as the volume of data expanded, this solution quickly reached its limit.

Steinkamp said that, "For our strategic direction, it was important to introduce a database that will also permit a selection of suitable BI tools at a later date. We regularly add new functions to our games. To evaluate how these are being received, we have to analyse our customer's game behaviour in real time. Good scaleability, rapid loading speed and the possibility of being able to use a variety of fast analytical functions and aggregation functions are important requirements that the new solution should demonstrate."

Based on in-memory technology, the high-performance database EXAsolution was selected by Wooga for its tuning freedom. The database has been designed to work as an appliance solution with Dell (News - Alert) hardware over 6+1 individual computers that were combined to form a cluster.
