SAP AG and Portugal Telecom (News - Alert) have extended the availability of solutions created on the SAP HANA Cloud platform through SmartCloudPT.
For Portugal Telecom (PT), the move supports its decision to switch its strategic focus to data and the management of big data. All of PT’s SAP (News - Alert) partners will now have access to the developer edition of SAP Business One.
“We believe that with our SmartCloudPT offering for SAP HANA, small and large businesses will be able to experiment with the advantages provided by SAP solutions in a low-risk development environment,” explained Miguel Moreira, PT’s managing director of Sistemas de Infomacao.
“They can then later scale that environment to a virtually unlimited capacity, as SAP HANA delivers more value to them,” he added.
Users of SmartCloudPT can also access SmartCloudPT service for SAP HANA cloud hosting, as well as the SmartCloudPT service for SAP HANA developer edition.
SAP HANA stores hundreds of terabytes of data compressed in memory, instead of moving records from a hard drive to a processor for analysis. The capability gives businesses immediate access to real-time information.
If a volume customer asked for a discount on an order, for instance, someone using SAP HANA could examine the profitability of the order and examine the effect of extending the discount on anticipated quarterly earnings.
The discount could be granted or denied while the customer is still on the phone.
SAP HANA is also accessible via mobile device for decision-making on the go. The solution works with a number of hardware providers, including Cisco, Dell, HP and IBM (News - Alert).
PT estimates that over 30,000 people worldwide use SAP Business One.
The partners announced that they had extended the developer edition of Business One while at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) in Barcelona. The two companies have not given an official release date.
