Marriott Global Reservation Call Center Named Top Large Workplace

The San Antonio (TX) Marriott Global Reservation call center, which handles the company’s sales and customer care, has secured the top spot in a “Top Workplaces” list. Neal Morton, of the San Antonio Express-News, noted that the company has been a player on the top workplaces list for some time, coming in second, third, and fourth place for companies with 500 or more employees in the past, but this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of supervisor Viviane Klumpp when she received the news. Klumpp ecstatically told Morton, “We’ve always been on the list, but we’ve never won!... OK, give me a second to breathe.”

Call centers, notorious for their turnover, can learn from the example set by the Marriot Global Reservation call center. The company does something that you don’t often hear about with call centers—they allow approximately half of their 600 employees to work from home, which one employee called “a lot of freedom.” Between in-office workers and telecommuters, the center handles over seven million calls each year.

Some of the benefits that helped the center secure their top spot include competitive benefits, discounts on Marriott products, language training programs, and a coveted golden card that recognizes 25 years with the company. Through the Quarter-Century Club, employees are eligible to a free stay at one of Marriott’s main properties.

Rounding out the list of local Texas winner named by the Express News (in order) are: Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union; University of the Incarnate Word; Security Service Federal Credit Union; Gunn Automotive Group; Rackspace (News - Alert) Hosting Inc.; The Hartford; Whataburger; Red McCombs Automotive; Taco Cabana; Southwest ISD; Accenture; Nationwide Insurance; Harlandale ISD; and the San Antonio Water System.

Red Ventures, a technology company that optimizes the customer lifecycle for large brands through a combination of strategic marketing and sales was considered the best mid-sized company to work for. For top small company to work for, Catapult Systems, a Microsoft (News - Alert) consulting company, was the winner.
