IT and how it relates to the cloud was in the news once again this week; we have some of the stories worth re-visiting.

In the corporate environment, the push toward cloud-based technology is well pronounced and in the adoption of cloud IT, Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) (AWS) is a power player. To get a better sense of just how big of an impact the company has in this space, Intermedia commissioned Researchscape International to survey more than 300 U.S. IT managers that were using or intended to use AWS. The outcome of this research was developed into the white paper, “IaaS Outlook: Managing and Migrating Business Applications in the Cloud.” The purpose was to determine which applications would move to the cloud and the timeline to do so. The applications that tended to be the most hosted on IaaS/PaaS was Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) by 44 percent of organizations surveyed. A close second was file synchronization and sharing, used by 40 percent of organizations. Click HERE to see even more insights from the paper.

In other news, a recent report from Forbes took a familiar idea and used it to advance something completely new and different. It's well-known that nothing can really be managed without data, and that's led to a lot of new survey data for enterprise cloud computing use. There's so much data on hand now that, according to the report, it's possible to take that data and turn it into a general look at the industry. That general look is revealing some very unexpected points. Go HERE to see what was uncovered.

Elsewhere, there’s a problem facing just about every CTO or other techie charged with keeping costs down and access high: Do we stick with all the servers in which we’ve already invested, or bite the bullet and go to the cloud?  Intermedia (News - Alert), a cloud-centric company that gives customers and partners the freedom to focus on business, not IT, by integrating 30 essential cloud IT apps with a single point of control, offered up some ideas this week that are worth a look.

And be sure to go HERE during your work-week to see other stories as they’re posted.
