Cloud IT Week in Review: Informationweek, Intermedia, More
May 21, 2016
It was yet again an interesting week in the world of Cloud IT and we have some of the highlighted stories for your edification.
Up top, when it comes to cloud computing, businesses consistently cite security as their biggest concern and barrier to adoption. Thankfully, with the widespread growth of the cloud, mobility and the IoT, better security measures and processes are being developed to give organizations the tools to beef up security. The Ponemon Institute (News - Alert) cites encryption as one of the fastest growing tools being used in conjunction with cloud computing. Out of more than 5,000 IT professionals queried globally, 41 percent said they have adopted encryption extensively throughout their organizations. A recent InformationWeek article examines the growing use of encryption and other tools being used to improve security surrounding cloud computing. Click HERE to get more details.
Elsewhere, the issue of marketing and the cloud was also addressed. “As you think ahead about developing your next marketing plan, don’t be complacent with what has been effective in the past,” said Jon Borgese Senior Director of Channel Marketing at Intermedia (News - Alert). “The industry is changing faster than you think, and it’s time to change your strategies as the industry changes.’ As such, Borgese offered up some salient points to ponder. Going back to the cloud, it’s kind of amazing to think how much of our business and livelihood is dependent on so many things over which we have no control. Things like weather, traffic, fires and other disasters that can pop up at any time can wreak havoc. So why do we still use landline telephones? That’s the thought behind a new industry push to seek out a wider breadth of fundamental IT services, not dependent on a vulnerable landline or other system that’s easily hacked or attacked. The cloud is one area being closely eyed for the new level of security and reliability it offers. Full details are HERE.
That’s a wrap. Be sure to stop back next week for more of Cloud IT.
