The technical ability of today's hackers is impressive. Whether it is heavily funded government and crime syndicates, or a teenager with just a single PC, they search day and night for vulnerabilities that can be exploited on systems around the world. One of the vectors of attack is SSL traffic, which is being targeted with sophisticated malware to access enterprise applications, data and users. With the certification of Blue Coat (News - Alert)'s Encrypted Traffic Management (ETM) Program, Big Switch Networks will be able to combat the attacks addressing SSL traffic.

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a security protocol that provides a secure channel between two machines operating over the Internet or an internal network. As the most widely used platform, it has progressively become the target of hackers, which is increasing the operational complexity and cost of networks in addressing this problem.

The Blue Coat ETM Certification gives its technology partners the tools they need to build solution in combating the security threats hidden in encrypted traffic. The partners will be able to meet regulatory compliances with a certified product for managing SSL encrypted traffics across different industries, including finance and healthcare.

According to Big Switch, today around 70 percent of enterprise network traffic is SSL encrypted. This has created blind spots in which firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-malware devices and other security tools cannot always see.

The Blue Coat SSL Visibility Appliance will allow Big Switch's Big Monitoring Fabric to fend of the attacks cloaked in encrypted SSL traffic by providing the visibility it needs across the network infrastructure of its customers.

Blue Coat's encrypted traffic management (ETM) gets rid of encrypted traffic blind spot by addressing the security threats hidden in encrypted traffic to ensure data privacy, policy and regulatory compliance. Some of the other features include: simplification of multi-team operational workflows, policy-based security enforcement, simplified management and high availability.

The cyber risk in today's digital ecosystem hides in the encrypted network traffic, if it is not properly addressed, the risk of financial loss and damage to the brand are likely scenarios organizations will face. Blue Coat's ETM is a proven solution that eliminates the encrypted traffic blind spots responsible for this threat. As a certified technology partner, Big Switch Networks (News - Alert) will also have the same capability.
