Amazon Web Services Gets Infusion of Services from Intermedia

Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) (AWS) is already the 800 pound gorilla in cloud services, and it is about to get even bigger in terms of the scope of capabilities offered. This is thanks to Intermedia (News - Alert), a leading provider of Hosted Exchange email, VoIP, file sharing, and other essential business cloud services, who will be bringing its array of tools to AWS and offering users access to some simple and complex but easy to use solutions.

Intermedia recently brought its Dedicated Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange system to AWS, and now adding some extra services. First out of the gate is SecuriSync, its comprehensive combination file backup and sharing option, along with new support for Skype (News - Alert) for Business and SharePoint. It will also feature a new business email system, managed by Intermedia's  team of Exchange experts.  The benefits being promoted are that Intermedia's system not only puts all the tools of AWS in play, but also offers a complete dedicated environment along with monitoring tools. Users also get the full range of support tools, compliance options, and high-end cloud security all from a standard per-user price rate.

This service comes at an excellent time; a recent study from Researchscape International revealed that 90 percent of respondents want to move email service to a single-tenant cloud managed by outside experts. Though a majority—59 percent—was either completely or very confident in current ability to manage Exchange email over AWS, a large number, 80 percent, still preferred having an expert involved in the mix. Given that Intermedia's Cloud Concierge experts are already actively migrating 15,000 mailboxes every month—and doing so without either data losses or downtime—Intermedia may well represent the kind of expertise those respondents want.

Intermedia's senior vice president of business development, Bob Leibholz, commented “Independent research confirms that AWS enterprise customers want a managed Exchange email solution when moving their business email to the cloud. Both AWS customers and sales professionals have confirmed this, communicating a desire to transition other essential business applications as part of the same effort.”

When it's obvious that a market wants certain things—as illustrated by the Researchscape International study—then providing those things just becomes a matter of common sense. We already knew that AWS was doing land-office business, and Intermedia stepping in for any part of that is a rational response to conditions on the ground. By augmenting its position with AWS, it's improved the chances of users getting in on Intermedia's slate of offerings for the first time, and potentially, adding more to what's already been picked up.

Intermedia has made a valuable step forward in bringing the fullest range of options to its potential market, and it should be a move welcomed by current and potential future Intermedia users.
