This week was packed with exciting news on the Cloud IT site. Whether you want to hear about Microsoft (News - Alert) taking on Google, preventing ransomware attacks or updates on videoconferencing, Cloud IT has it all at the moment. With that in mind, let’s take a look at this week’s happenings.

TMC’s (News - Alert) Steve Anderson started out the week with news that Microsoft took Land O’ lakes from Google. As he says, “Land O' Lakes [is] a $13 billion company perhaps best known for its butter, but also known for its extensive work in agriculture and similar issues. Land O' Lakes owns an agricultural technology firm known as WinField, and, recently, it was found that WinField is moving its R7 app to Microsoft Azure, a move that takes Land O' Lakes at least somewhat out of Google (News - Alert)'s camp and puts it squarely into Microsoft's.” There’s quite a bit of business shifting going around here. You can get the full story and find out how Google feels about it HERE.

The topic on everyone’s minds these days seems to be ransomware and what industry is going to get hit next. Between the release of Mr. Robot’s second season and the multitude of ransomware attacks in the news, it really isn’t surprising that everyone has hackers on the brain. In his article on the subject, Steve Anderson discusses these attacks on the healthcare industry specifically, and goes on to discuss how the cloud can be used to defend against ransomware and ranscam hits. You can get all the details on how the cloud can be used to stop attacks, and deal with the fallout of a successful hit, HERE.

Onto a happier note, according to the IDC (News - Alert) Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker, vendor revenue from sales of infrastructure products (server, storage and Ethernet switch) for cloud IT grew by 3.9 percent year over year to $6.6 billion in the first quarter of 2016 on slowed demand from the hyperscale public cloud sector. This growth includes both the public and private cloud. This is great news for cloud IT infrastructure. For the full report on what aspects are gaining the most revenue, check out this article.

It was a good week for Avaya (News - Alert), as they were named a major player in the videoconferencing market by the International Data Corporation (IDC).  The IDC uses its MarketScape reports to provide analysis of how major vendors fit into their respective markets, and these reports helped bring Avaya to the top of the major players list. You can learn more about Avaya, their services and their ascent to the top HERE.

While some exciting news has been highlighted here, that’s certainly not all that went on this week. Be sure to head to the Cloud IT homepage for all the updates, and come back next week for the latest insights. Have a great weekend!
