Welcome back to the Week in Review, where we take a look at all the top stories making headlines in Cloud IT this week.

The week started off with good news for those involved in Cloud IT infrastructure. According to contributing writer Lindsey Patterson, the spending in this area is trending skyward. The article discusses what the cloud has to offer, and takes a closer look at Netflix’s successful relationship with Amazon server infrastructure. Patterson also explores spending—where it’s going and where you should be looking to spend first. Find out more HERE.

Things are looking good for the cloud. Spending is up, and it is now the default for the majority of enterprise computing projects. TMC’s Steve Anderson reflects back on the time when people were terrified of the cloud and potentially exposing their valued documents. Now, a ServiceNow (News - Alert) report titled “The 2016 Cloud Computing Tipping Point” has revealed that the reality of cloud use has finally caught up with the hype. It found that 52 percent of enterprises turn to cloud as the default basis for enterprise IT operations. This beats out other popular systems by a landslide. You can find out what changed and how the cloud is now being used HERE.

Meanwhile, IBM (News - Alert) is taking full advantage of users’ preference for the cloud by releasing its new hybrid cloud all-flash storage solutions. These solutions were created to address cognitive applications. For IBM, this release is all about putting the customer first: “Hybrid Cloud enablement, as a standard feature for new and existing users of Spectrum (News - Alert) Virtualize gives our clients more control to store their data where it can have the most impact to its business,” said Ed Walsh, general manager, IBM Storage and Software Defined Infrastructure. You can continue reading HERE.

In other news, special guest contributor Robert Duffner, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Cloud, at ServiceNow, offered up some insight on expanding career paths for system administrators. He points out that, like most IT professionals, system administrators often find themselves going beyond their job descriptions. They even sometimes find themselves tasked with performing debugging duties, and that requires a familiarity with computer coding and programming. Duffner dives into low code development, system administrators’ roles, and more HERE.

While a variety of topics have been highlighted here, that’s certainly not all that went on this week. Be sure to head to Cloud IT for all the updates, and come back next week for the latest insights. Have a great weekend!
