Trend Micro Expands its Cloud App Security Solution

As more organizations migrate to the cloud, they will be storing most, if not all, of their data there. And even though the security protocols cloud service providers offer is getting much better, security vendors are starting to address this growing segment. Trend Micro, a security software company, is extending the capability of its Cloud App Security solution to Box (News - Alert), Dropbox and Google Drive, three of the largest cloud storage and applications providers.

Gartner predicts that by 2022, the number of cloud users are estimated to grow to 695 million globally, which will require robust data security systems to protect all of the information stored in data centers around the world.

Trend Micro delivers Cloud App Security with a SaaS (News - Alert) service designed to defend against attacks, while implementing compliance initiatives so organizations can address the regulatory bodies of their industries using standard published vendors’ APIs. According to the company, it has protected Office 365 users from half a million malicious files and URLs since it launched the platform in July of 2015. 

"With the increasing popularity of cloud application and file sharing services such as Box and Dropbox (News - Alert), Trend Micro Cloud App Security now enables organizations to embrace the efficiency of these services while maintaining security," said Richard Ku, senior vice president, enterprise product and services management Trend Micro (News - Alert).

Using the Trend Micro Control Manager, Cloud App Security will give organizations the visibility needed to see where their sensitive data is located at all times. In addition to knowing where the data is, they will also be able to enforce rules on the way the data is shared across hybrid exchange environments, endpoint, Web, mobile and server security layers.

The app has additional features, including guarding against advanced threats with sandbox malware analysis; using Data loss prevention (DLP); detecting malware hidden in office files using document exploit detection; and a simple API integration that supports all user functionality and devices in the cloud.

Trend Micro has made the Cloud App Security solution part of its Smart Protection Complete Suite. The extended protection of this suite has a multilayered system to ensure all the devices that are part of an organization are secured no matter where they use it. The endpoint and mobile threat protection extends to multiple layers of email, collaboration and gateway security, while handling users from a single management console that gives administrators complete user-based visibility into the security of the cloud environment across multiple threat vectors.

The risks in the digital environment are many, and for the vast majority of organizations the task of protecting their IT infrastructure is beyond their expertise and budget. And as the cloud becomes the preferred destination to manage the cost and address some of their security concerns, solutions such as Trend Micro's Cloud App Security will have to be considered for an added layer of peace of mind.
