AboveNet Aids Continuum Data to Start New Data Center in Lombard

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Chicago colocation provider, Continuum Data Centers has announced that it is opening a new data center in Lombard, Illinois this month and has selected AboveNet to provide the backbone for its high-bandwidth transport from Continuum's Lombard 20,000 square foot data center to AboveNet's Oak Brook, Illinois point of presence (POP).

Tom Chaffin, managing partner of Continuum, said the data center has been specifically designed to give organizations the service, support and pricing that has been missing in the Chicago suburban colocation market.

“We feel AboveNet is a key ingredient to the success of our data center. AboveNet provides exceptional services and is the backbone of our transport network,” said Chaffin.

Continuum’s management team previously developed Stargate’s 86,000 square foot data center in Oak Brook, Ill. in 2007, which was acquired by Latisysi in August 2008. This experienced data center design team has been providing colocation services to small, medium and Fortune 1000 companies for more than 10 years.

"As we complete this implementation, we are looking ahead a few months to our next expansion, which will likely be an upgrade to 10Gbps bandwidth to meet our customers' increasing need for high bandwidth," said Chaffin.

AboveNet's MaryBeth Nance, Executive Director of Business Development & Marketing, said, they are pleased to provide high bandwidth connectivity that will enable Continuum Data Centers to support the colocation services to their Fortune 1000 customers require. These Continuum services complement AboveNet's diverse, low-latency fiber optic connectivity.

AboveNet offers a full-portfolio of optical networking services and solutions that claim to address potential bottleneck from the individual server level all the way across the network. Its solutions operate on an affordable and integrated all-optical infrastructure to eliminate constraints on information exchange instead of just moving bottlenecks to other downstream or upstream exchange points, according to the company.
