CoSentry Selects Packet Power to Monitor Data Center Energy Consumption

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

CoSentry, a Midwest data center and colocation provider, has selected Packet Power to monitor data center power consumption.

Brian Driscoll, site manager at at CoSentry, Sioux Falls Facility, said that they chose Packet Power because of the low capital outlay and less intrusive installation.

“The implementation was as simple as connecting the Packet Power cables to the devices we wanted to monitor and that's it," said Driscoll.

By choosing Packet Power, the company now only needs a small maintenance window to connect existing clients to the new data power consumption.

Packet Power technology helps companies reduce power consumption by monitoring the power flowing through the data center in detail and analyzing the resulting information.

"Before moving to Packet Power, we had to measure power consumption manually. Now there are no manual measurements and we have better visibility and accuracy at the circuit, client, and room level," said Driscoll.

Packet Power makes it easier to access billing information and provides the company’s clients with a portal to view their power consumption so they can monitor power as well.

CoSentry has upgraded approximately one third of their existing clients' systems with plans to have 100 percent upgraded by the end of 2009. All new clients are automatically installed using Packet Power.

Additionally, the company’s attention to reducing power consumption will help the Midwest data center and colocation provider become one of the leading power consumption-friendly facilities in the U.S.

With Packet Power products and services, co-location providers can help alleviate the rising cost of power consumption expenses for their clients.

"Data centers use a great deal of power and need to become more energy efficient. Our power consumption monitoring and reporting services make it easy for customers to see what is driving power usage across time and where to focus their power savings efforts," said Steve VanTassel, chief executive officer of Packet Power.

VanTassel said that the company gives data centers a clear understanding of their power consumption so they can take steps to slow it down, extending the useful life of their infrastructure and reducing power costs.
