PIPE Networks Deploys Opengear Servers

By Greg Galitzine, Group Editorial Director

Utah-based Opengear has announced that PIPE Networks, an Australian peering provider has selected Opengear’s CM4008 console servers for deployment.

PIPE Networks operates 16 exchange points in six cities with over 130 active connections. The Company’s peering customers include some of Australia’s largest content and Internet service providers including WebCentral, The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, iiNet, Primus, TPGi and AsiaNetcom.

PIPE plans to deploy the open source-based CM4008 units for serial console management, replacing legacy equipment.

The CM4000 family is designed with system administrators in mind, to assist them with access to — and management of — their data centers and networks from anywhere in the world. According to the Opengear product brief, the CM4000 provides “reliable and secure access to the serial console ports, embedded service processors and network console ports on Windows, Linux, SUN, HP and IBM (News - Alert) servers.”

The console server allows administrators to monitor and control network elements such as routers, switches, firewalls, UPS, remote power, PBXs, etc.

PIPE Networks’ fiber network extends throughout a number of metropolitan areas of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, providing high-quality network connections to customers throughout the central business districts of those cities.

“The progressive deployment of Opengear CM4008 console servers at all off-site locations is part of the company’s strategy to ensure it continues to meet it’s committed service levels,” said Bob Purdon, Operations Manager, Managed Infrastructure, PIPE Networks.

“It is refreshing to work with an organisation such as PIPE Networks that shares our open source philosophy in applying open source software for efficient internal infrastructure management and for innovative customer service solutions,” said Leanne Ramsay, Vice President of Sales Asia Pacific, Opengear.
