PAETEC Combines IP-PBX, SIP Trunking with IP Simple Solutions Product: Interview

By Michael Dinan, TMCnet Editor

Making good on plans to accelerate out of this recession with new products, a Fairport, N.Y.-based company that provides data, voice and Internet solutions to business-class customers this week made available its new data and equipment bundle offering.

Officials at PAETEC (News - Alert) Holding Corp. say that “IP Simple Solutions” – which combines the company’s Allworx IP-PBX with PAETEC’s SIP trunking – can be had wherever Dynamic IP voice service is available.

The company calls it a unique offering that includes end-to-end service and support from the desktop to the cloud. More specifically, with IP Simple Solutions, PAETEC can offer and support SIP trunking, high-speed Internet and MPLS VPN nationwide, as well as its own IP-PBX (News - Alert) and phones.

With IP Simple Solutions, customers may choose from the following equipment to complete their IP Simple bundles:

·         IP PBX – 24x or 6x
·         IP Phones – 9212 and/or 9224
·         Optional Software –Call Assistant, Call Queuing, Conference Center, VPN, and Multi Language Pack.

TMCnet put some questions about IP Simple Solutions to Jeff Howe, the president of Allworx (News - Alert), a PAETEC subsidiary.

Our exchange follows.

TMCnet: How did PAETEC’s “IP Simple Solutions” product get its name?

Jeff Howe: The branding strategy for IP Simple originated from conversations with many existing and prospective customers that were confused by the various VoIP offerings in the market place. These customers explained that they wanted a simple and easy to understand VoIP product that would provide dial tone and the latest product feature and functionality to their desks at a cost competitive price, but that didn’t swamp them with undue amount of techno-babble.

To that end, we designed IP Simple to be just that – simple. The customer works with a group of PAETEC network and Integrated Solution representative to determine their exact current and longer range. Based upon the customers interaction, PAETEC provides a personalized solution designed exclusively with their business in mind

In summary, the name originated with the lack of clear, easy to understand VoIP products in the market place, and PAETEC 's cultural focus of first listening to our customers and potential customers BEFORE we build out a product line came into play.

TMCnet: Here’s something we sometimes ask officials who are involved in SIP trunking – a technology that’s really emerged as an industry standard: At what point do you think IP-PBXs will offer all the features of a traditional PBX?

JH: Now! The IP PBX systems being offered with PAETEC’s IP Simple product have the ability to work as a fully functional PBX system, a Key system or a hybrid of both! Because PAETEC IP-PBX products are designed, developed and manufacture red utilizing the current key or hybrid PBX “look and feel”, the customer impact to migrate from a TDM based platform to IP has little if any impact to the customer employees. Basically as an end user you can continue to use your phone on your desk the exact same way you have in the past, and also take advantage of the remarkable unified communications centric features that IP-PBX systems bring.

TMCnet: We understand that IP Simple Solutions is seeing some of its strongest sales in areas hit hardest by the slow economy, such as Detroit. Why is that, in your view?

JH: With across-the-board reductions in CapEx budgets in Detroit, Flint and throughout Michigan, IP Simple has taken off in no small part due to the fact that customers can now upgrade their communications, reduce the current PBX maintenance costs and enhance their business with features that didn’t have before, and for no outlay of cash. With the IP Simple rental program, you can have a full technology managed upgrade with no cash outlay.

TMCnet: Talk to us about your competition in this area. Are any other providers that design and manufacture a PBX offering this type of service?

JH: None. PAETEC stands alone as the sole CLEC that also owns an IP-PBX manufacturer. Once again, PAETEC’s comprehensive product strategy allows us to bring products to market that our competition simply does not have. So while those other telephone companies are running around trying to piece-meal things together, PAETEC is providing customers with a truly differentiated product offering that stands alone.
