Opengear, a provider of next generation console server and remote management solutions, has announced the debut of ACM5004-G, a new line of smart cellular routers.
Company officials said that this new line of smart cellular routers go well beyond previous generation of routers. Company officials said that it unifies Opengear's (News - Alert) advanced router, firewall, power management, environmental monitoring and advanced console server functionality.
Previously, the wireless routers and firewalls were limited when it came to managing distributed Ethernet devices. But, Opengear has created a new category with its smart cellular routers.
Company officials said that the Opengear ACM5004-G monitors all devices with serial, USB, Ethernet and digital I/O interfaces. Moreover, Opengear allows for UPS monitoring and management for PDUs and RPS.
Environmental monitoring includes internal temperature sensors and optional support for attaching sensors for smoke, fire, vibration, water detection and door contacts, said company officials.
In addition, this latest offering is touted as the most secure cellular smart router on the market. Company officials said that it offers security with RSA (News - Alert) certification and FIPS140-2 compliance.
“A growing number of our customers have been asking for a next generation cellular smart router,” said Bob Waldie, CEO at Opengear, adding that while there are quality wireless solutions in the market -- like Digi’s ConnectWAN and Sierra Wireless' (News - Alert) AirLink -- that provide masquerading, forwarding and filtered access to remote devices, they don't provide the functionality, they aren't as easy to use and they don't provide the security of our solutions.
“Our new class of smart cellular router goes beyond these legacy solutions as we provide access to remote devices, and also monitor and manage the whole remote site,” Waldie said.
Earlier in October, Opengear announced that it aims to expand the capabilities surrounding monitoring Avaya products, by integrating them with AlarmTraq, designed by Reilly Telecom.
