Gartner Positions Verizon as a Leader in Magic Quadrants

Gartner Inc. has positioned Verizon (News - Alert) in the Leaders quadrant in two recently published reports: "Magic Quadrant for Global Network Service Providers and "Magic Quadrant for Pan-European Network Service Providers."

Verizon delivers integrated IT and communications solutions with its high-IQ global IP and mobility networks.

The global network service provider (NSP) market remains highly competitive. This is good news for enterprises since it ensures continued downward pressure on pricing when combined with competitive purchasing strategies.

For most enterprises, Pan-European networking now involves services in Central European and Eastern European markets, as well as markets in Western Europe. Providers had to extend their European coverage by some combination of network expansion or partnership.

Gartner (News - Alert) evaluated wide area network transport services, such as multiprotocol label switching (MPLS); Ethernet and Internet virtual private networks (VPNs); voice services such as SIP Trunking; and value-added services such as cloud (infrastructure-as-a-service), security, managed mobility, application-fluent networking, unified communications and data center services.

"Our world-class global IP network is the foundation for Verizon's 'everything-as-a-service' strategy and the advanced solutions that enable better business outcomes for our customers worldwide," stated Farooq Muzaffar, vice president of enterprise network and communications solutions with Verizon.

"As a result, multinational corporations and government agencies can count on Verizon to deliver advanced capabilities such as Managed Telepresence (News - Alert) for better visual collaboration across the globe," Muzaffar added.

"Leaders have a full portfolio of voice and data products, coupled with above-average service and support, wide global coverage and competitive pricing.  They have a strong vision that includes adopting more information and communication technology (ICT) capabilities, which is a strategy they articulate clearly and openly," said officials at Gartner.

In the Pan-European study, Gartner added, "Leaders have a full portfolio of voice and data services, including relatively new offerings in areas such as UC and Ethernet services.  These services are delivered with good quality across a wide area of coverage at competitive prices by account teams that are typically closer to the customer.  Leaders have a strong vision of the market and their role in it, and they will typically be able to address a wider range of customers (in terms of size, geography and service requirements) with their service offerings than others in this Magic Quadrant."

The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It shows Gartner's analysis of how vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, defined by Gartner.
