AsiaInfo-Linkage has announced continued progress in the Company’s upgrades to China Unicom’s (News - Alert) 3G nationwide e-channel portal.

China Unicom is engaged in GSM and WCDMA cellular business in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China. The company offers fixed-line voice, broadband and other Internet-related services, information and communications technology services, business and data communications services, and other related telecommunication value-added businesses.

Since 2008, AsiaInfo-Linkage has partnered with China Unicom in the development of its nationwide 3G e-channel portal. In China, the portal provides the first a unified nationwide electronic platform.

Company officials said that the platform can support comprehensive customer sales, optimize service and business management. Moreover, it’s connected to each of China Unicom's provincial Business Support Systems (BSS).

AsiaInfo (News - Alert)-Linkage, which is a sole software vendor for Unicom's 3G e-channel portal, is now upgrading the carrier’s system to support 3G business orders as well as integrating the 2G and fixed-line businesses.

Simultaneously, the company is also linking the nationwide e-channel portal with China Unicom's provincial billing systems. Thanks to the nationwide e-channel portal, Unicom can effectively manage electronic sales and improve the overall customer experience.

“We continue to witness encouraging progress in our upgrades to China Unicom's nationwide e-channel portal, providing the carrier with improved sales and marketing functionality,” said Steve Zhang (News - Alert), CEO at AsiaInfo-Linkage.

He sees this as a positive trend for the company as it has the potential to open up future opportunities to sign interface contracts at both the nationwide and provincial levels.

AsiaInfo-Linkage is a provider of software solutions and IT services in China's telecommunications industry. Recently, the company signed a contract with Jiangsu Cable Television Network to develop a Business Operation Support System (BOSS).
