Verizon Tops Wireless Survey, AT&T Seen As Most Expensive, Sprint Shut Out

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

From the wonderfully-named Ronkonkoma, New York, comes news that Aperio CI (News - Alert) has released the results of what company officials are calling “the largest consumer survey of wireless operators ever conducted in the US.”

Certainly is big -- the survey polled 5,337 people across the United States about each of the major network operators, finding that Verizon (News - Alert) is “the clear winner overall, with highest positive views and lowest negative views.”

They were tabbed as #1 for perceived quality, a fact which you might see them make a bit of an issue of in publicity, advertising and media. If you thought you could hear them fine now, oh boy, just you wait.

The survey, conducted by Left Right Research, asked people, “What comes to mind when you hear the name (Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile (News - Alert) or Verizon)?” There were no set answers for the people to say “yes” or “no” to, they just said what came into their minds. Under that format, Verizon got more than twice as many positive as negative responses, Sprint (News - Alert) & AT&T got twice as many negative responses as positive ones and with T-Mobile, the positive responses slightly outweighed the negative responses.

As industry observer Don Reisinger writes,“Earlier this year, AT&T announced plans to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion from Deutsche Telekom. If all goes its way, AT&T will be... the biggest carrier in the market with about 130 million subscribers. However, the drop in customer-satisfaction scores for AT&T and T-Mobile do not bode well for the possible combined firm.”

T-Mobile is seen as as the lowest cost provider overall, AT&T the most expensive of the Big Four -- Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile -- major operators -- and lost the award for Best Phones Verizon started to sell the iPhone (News - Alert).

Sprint... wins Miss Congenality. Thanks for playing, see you next year.
