Sorrento Networks recently announced that Highland Telephone Cooperative has chosen Sorrento’s GigaMux 3200 CWDM solution. Highland Telephone Cooperative is a telecommunications provider that is located in Sunbright, Tennessee and the recipient of the Broadband Stimulus award. Sorrento’s GigaMux 3200 CWDM solution will be used to deliver reliable, high-speed broadband services to rural Tennessee and Kentucky.
In a release, Fred Terry, general manager of Highland Telephone Cooperative said that “We’re very excited to bring this broadband project to these areas of Tennessee and Kentucky, thereby bringing exciting educational and economic opportunities to schools, businesses, homes, and more. Sorrento Networks is the ideal partner to provide reliable, cost-effective broadband to the people and businesses here, expanding the Highland network to more than 1,700 linear miles of fiber. We’re eager to offer broadband services to an area that historically has had limited—if any—broadband access.”
The $66.5 million “Fiber Forward” project will leverage WDM technology to bring broadband to area customers. The GigaMux 3200 will provide a number of services in the region, including SONET OC3 to OC48 and GigaBit Ethernet.
Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks said that “Sorrento is proud and excited to strengthen our nation through this important investment in Tennessee’s and Kentucky’s communications infrastructure. The Gigamux 3200 provides an affordable CWDM broadband solution that allows Highland Telephone to increase the bandwidth of their existing fiber network. We’re proud to partner with a Broadband Stimulus award-winner to make a significant impact on the economy and way of life in this region.”
