TMCnet Communication Solutions Week in Review

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

It was a busy week in the Communication Solutions sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

A patent was awarded to TeleSign for its PhoneID verification technology. The technology provides information about phone numbers, phone type and geographic location. The validity of the phone number is also verified by the technology. An online company can use this information for user-screening.

In addition, Akvelon (News - Alert) has made things easier for wireless carriers, app developers and handset manufacturers by introducing a Performance Management Toolkit (PMT) that helps test end-to-end user experience on mobile devices. Constantine Korovkin, Akvelon’s vice president of delivery, said PMT provides advanced network measurement capabilities for engineers in the office and the field.

Reports also help engineers analyze and compare tests results on different devices or device groups.

In another story, Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC (News - Alert)) conferred the 2011 Unified Communications Product of the Year Award on ADTRAN's (News - Alert) NetVanta Unified Communications Appointment Reminder. The application is integrated into the database system, and appointment reminders are sent automatically without the intervention of staff. Freed up resources can be used for more important matters.

Also, TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert) (TCS) recently announced the public safety industry's first collaborative agreement with Cassidian Communications to provide comprehensive end-to-end ESInet solutions based on the NENA i3 Standard. This new solution portfolio will be made available throughout the nation. The NENA i3 Standard received formal approval from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) on June 16.

And Southwest Integrated Circuit Design, a fables IC design company, has selected TowerJazz’s SiGe BiCMOS process technologies to develop its latest high-performance RF integrated circuits. TowerJazz specialty foundry capabilities were used by SWID to produce an integrated walkie-talkie chip (XN239) and a low noise amplifier (XN255) to complement its RF tuner.
