Freescale Semiconductor (News - Alert), a global leader in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors, recently announced in a press release that its portfolio of secure broadband gateway solutions has won the prestigious 2011 InfoVision Award in the category of "Enabling Silicon and Component Level Technologies." The range of secure broadband gateway solutions helps OEMs and ODMs quickly and cost-effectively create a range of secure gateway applications.

"Freescale has built a robust system of partners and internal resources around our QorIQ processors, allowing us to help customers build entire products," said Brett Butler, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Networking Processor (News - Alert) Division, in a statement. "This award underscores Freescale's commitment to supplying the software, hardware and other enablement technologies that help our customers speed time to market and hit critical market windows."

With Freescale's portfolio of secure broadband gateway solutions, companies can create secure gateway applications, including unified threat management (UTM) appliances, IPS/IDS appliances, secured routers, VPN routers, secured switches, Wi-Fi access points, VoIP gateways, and multi-service business gateways. The range includes advanced multicore QorIQ processors, optimized low-level software, and commercial-grade VortiQa networking application software.

The award was presented last week at the 2011 Broadband World Forum Europe. The Broadband World Forum is held by analyst firm Informa (News - Alert) Telecoms & Media, which is a leading provider of business intelligence and strategic marketing solutions to global telecoms and media markets.   

"Each year the standard of entries never fails to impress, and this year the judges had a truly global shortlist to work through from all areas of the broadband community," said Gavin Whitechurch, director of the Broadband World Forum. "Freescale Semiconductor really impressed the judges with their entry and are well deserving of their award."

In related news, Freescale Semiconductor will announce its third quarter 2011 financial results in a press release at 3:00 p.m. CDT (News - Alert), Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. The press release will be posted at www.freescale.com/investor. The company will conduct a live Webcast of its conference call with investors at 4:00 p.m. CDT on the same day.
