AirWalk Communications Introduces the AW100 Series

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

AirWalk Communications, a developer of IP CDMA Radio Access Network products that deliver 3G voice and data platforms, has reportedly introduced a compact, high-performance, single-sector radio access network: the AW100 series.

According to the company, the AW100 series is an integrated radio and controller which offers full 3GPP2 performance in a compact 1RU form factor. This product is designed to save operators on capex and opex while providing reliable, high-quality cellular service.

The AW100, which is offered in 1xEV-DO Rev A. or 1xRTT versions, expands the concept of bringing broadband to under-developed towns and villages. It offers wireless operators an affordable access point to complement macro networks with in-building coverage. In addition, the AW100 can be rapidly deployed in developing nations as a wireless local loop service at nominal cost, the company said.

Moreover, the environmentally friendly new AW100 series complements the existing AirWalk product line that includes OneRAN industrial-grade three-sector products, as well as the EdgePoint and EdgePoint PRO for consumer and enterprise femtocell solutions.

“The driving force behind the development of the AW100 family of products was to expand on the concept of bringing broadband to under-developed wireless towns and villages,” said Serge Pequeux, President and CEO of AirWalk Communications (News - Alert).
He added, “At the same time these products offer wireless operators an affordable access point to complement macro networks with in-building coverage.”

Company is currently offering standards-based product line as an individual 200mW picocell, a 4W minicell, or 20W macrocell with an external amplifier. The AW100 product offerings include either 32 or 64 channel elements in 1xRTT or 192 channel elements in 1xEV-DO Rev. A configuration.

Officials at the company said their products are modular, stackable and increase coverage and capacity. The company’s radio products operate on the global CDMA licensed frequencies and offer operators new sources of revenue.
