DeviceAnywhere Test Center Helps Microsoft in the Deployment Process for Windows Live for Mobile

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

DeviceAnywhere has announced Microsoft (News - Alert) is using its DeviceAnywhere Test Center, a SaaS platform for bringing down the time needed to deploy and maintain Quality of Service in Windows Live for Mobile.

According to DeviceAnywhere, the  Test Center is a mobile application-testing platform that can be used to have a real-time, over-the-Internet interaction with more than 2,000 live handsets that are connected to worldwide carrier networks by organizations and independent developers making consumer-facing mobile applications.

Unlike emulators/simulators or other technologies that may control only a subset of the device functionality, DeviceAnywhere Test Center employs real, electric connections that access all hardware controls (keys, cameras, touch screens, batteries, etc.), and outputs such as video and audio streams, backlights and vibrations.

DeviceAnywhere’s “solution” enables Microsoft to support its browse-linking agreements and provides a quality experience for its partners by identifying and solving issues that may be specific to the operator’s network or suite of devices, the company stated in a press release.

Mark Boyce, mobile browse program manager of the Windows Live Deployment team at Microsoft, said that the computer giant was able to save a lot of time and effort using DeviceAnywhere’s solution as it removed most of the tedious, manual tasks associated with its in-house mobile testing process.

The solution also helped Microsoft by offering real-time access to DeviceAnywhere’s broad set of devices and networks to root out most problems and solve them very quickly.

Using the real-time interaction that DeviceAnywhere’s Test Center platform offered with live devices, the development team at Microsoft Live could recreate problems reported from the field using the same model of device on the same network, investigate and develop against specific devices when needed, or even access services from various networks around the globe without roaming charges. Windows Live program managers were also able to demo new designs across multiple devices.

Faraz Syed (News - Alert), CEO and co-Founder of DeviceAnywhere, said that DeviceAnywhere is pleased to support the continued success of Windows Live for Mobile to help users benefit from the same excellent, online experience on mobile devices as they enjoy when plugged into their home computer.

Syed added that DeviceAnywhere Test Center provides a SaaS (News - Alert) solution that allows Microsoft to maintain this high level of quality by enabling live testing on a wide range of networks and devices, while considerably reducing the physical management and maintenance overhead associated with in-house efforts.

DeviceAnywhere recently added iPhone (News - Alert) 3G for mobile app developers and DeviceAnywhere enhanced end-user experience across mobile community.
