Twitter for iPad Now Available and Getting Rave Reviews

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

It seems that just about everybody wants to get a piece of the iPad action and Twitter is no exception. According to an AFP report, the microblogging service launched an app for the iPad and has already garnered rave reviews from tech blogs. Silicon Alley Insider blogger Dan Frommer described the Twitter for iPad app as “really slick” and noted it has already become the Twitter app of choice on the iPad.

TechCrunch’s MG Siegler noted that it has been a few days since first playing with the app and believes it is hands-down the best iPad app out there. Siegler added that the app provides a great experience for reading tweets and the links shared by friends. A free app, the “Twitter for iPad” program allows Twitter users to send and receive tweets and open links to Web content. Even though Twitter does offer its own site and landing page, most users tend to access their microblogging page through 3rd party applications.

Users can tap a message with their finger and see any related content in a separate window pane."Depending on the content in that Tweet, you'll see a video or photo, or maybe a news story, or perhaps another tweet," Twitter said in a blog post. "Twitter for iPad takes advantage of the iPad's fluid touch interface, letting you move lots of information around smoothly and quickly -- without needing to open and close windows or click buttons.”

In other Twitter news, TMC (News - Alert) reported that IPscape, an Australian cloud-based provider of contact center technology, announced it has added Tweet functionality to multi-channel contact center technology, in order to aid contact center productivity. The beta availability of Twitter is introduced as an integral element in its multi-channel contact center technology solution.

In June, we discovered that Japan loves tweeting on Twitter. Myspace and Facebook (News - Alert) (News - Alert) have also tried to break into the market, but it's Twitter that the Japanese love. Perhaps it's the cute name or the on-the-go quick updating capabilities - who can say?! But the statistics express volumes - 16.3 percent of Japanese people Tweet, compared to 9.8 percent of Americans. Will they tap into the Twitter iPad app? Count on it.
