Sify Selects Cisco Platform

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Sify, a managed enterprise and consumer Internet services companies in India, reportedly has selected the Cisco ONS 15454 Multi Service Transport Platform (MSTP) as the foundation of its optical network.

The decision is part of Sify's strategy to enhance its existing core network to meet its customers' ever increasing demand for sophisticated network services and to address the rapidly evolving India market.

"We are in the process of transforming our network infrastructure into an IP Next Generation Network to deliver triple play and more,” said Arvind Mathur, chief architect, Sify Technologies Limited, in a statement. “These technology investments are aimed at making us more competitive in the services we offer across enterprise and consumer segments going forward.”

Mathur said that Cisco (News - Alert) was the right choice for the company as ONS15454 MSTP is technically the foremost platform to meet the company’s scalability needs and at the same time cost efficient for low bandwidth requirements.

"Sify was the first to launch managed connectivity services over a TCP/IP network in April 1998, and has continually pioneered managed infrastructure services, as well as set the standard for such services in India," added Pranesh Babu, senior vice president, Network Services & Engineering, Sify Technologies Limited.

Babu said that the migration of the core network infrastructure to an IP Next Generation Network helps enable the company to offer more sophisticated services for voice, video and data, with higher levels of service quality for customers.

He said that one of the advantages with Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP is that the platform is extremely easy to commission and operate, minimizing the operating expenses.

He said that Sify has been able to install and commission the equipment on its own without support from Cisco. With this investment, Sify has once again set the standard for the data telecom services industry in India, Babu added.

Cisco officials said that the ONS 15454 Multi Service Transport Platform, a core component of the Cisco's Optical Solutions and Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture, offers capabilities, reliability and scalability required for service providers to offer any-play services.

Bill Gartner (News - Alert), vice president and general manager, Cisco Optical Transport Business Unit, said the company is pleased to extend its relationship with Sify to develop and deploy the technologies that would help enable them to provide advanced data network and Internet services to their customers.

Gartner said that the ONS 15454 MSTP, the best in class DWDM platform, will let carriers seamlessly carry all of their existing communications infrastructures for voice, video, and data and storage onto a single infrastructure.

He said Indian service providers are working toward greater control of their network and overall operations to succeed against competitive and market forces.

Cisco's Optical and IP NGN solutions enable broad network transformation that encompasses not just the service provider's network but their entire business.

“We believe this is one of the first steps for a service provider to move towards becoming an 'experience provider,' and we're pleased to work with Sify on this evolutionary path." added Gartner.
