XKL, LLC, a provider of enterprise fiber optic networking equipments, unveiled version 2.2 of its DXMOS software with augmented features that will help in increasing customer usability.
According to XKL (News - Alert), the DXMOS version 2.2 is an upgraded Operating System for the company’s DarkStar optical transport and in-line amplifier product lines. The DXMOS enhances system security, improves management and adds support for the DarkStar products. The latest version of the software has been incorporated with improvements for users including a variety of enhanced support features, such as ease-of-use and upgrades.
XKL's DarkStar is a line of fiber optic communication equipment designed to allow enterprises to easily and cost-effectively build private optical networks with massive bandwidth, giving an alternative to the traditional solution of using expensive carrier services.
The DarkStar product line is led by the company’s DXM Optical Transport (News - Alert) System. It facilitates companies to utilize dark fiber that is already in place besides expand data capacity and transmission speed with plug-and-play devices that are easy to implement and manage.
Designed for ease-of-use while decreasing latency across a network, the DarkStar Optical Transport Systems can be implemented in metro, regional as well as long distance networks. In addition, the DarkStar systems can achieve end-to-end optical transport delivery, said officials with XKL in a press release.
Other enhancements to the DXMOS Version 2.2 software include advancements to the file system utilities and 'show' commands along with the addition of a customizable login banner to enable users to configure these functions to meet their specific needs.
Len Bosack (News - Alert), CEO of XKL, said in a statement, "Not only does the DXMOS software upgrade increase usability for customers, but we have upgraded to an error-forwarding scheme that enhances the reporting and amplifier support functions of our DarkStar products."

Officials with XKL, said in the release that the company has been conducting extensive field tests to ensure the products’ compatibility with tunable lasers. The company’s successful field tests have provided the company with valuable information on the ways in which tunable laser compatibility can provide customers increased flexibility and enhanced cost-savings by reducing the type and number of spare-part components required, as well as easing overall operational management associated with laser optics.
