Indosat to Deploy ADVA's Technology to Support Interconnectivity Solutions for Banking Customers

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

Indosat (News - Alert), a leading telecommunications and information service provider in Indonesia that provides cellular services, fixed telecommunications services and fixed wireless service, has found a new friend in ADVA (News - Alert) Optical Networking.

Today, ADVA – a global provider of intelligent telecommunications infrastructure solutions –announced that Indosat has selected ADVA Optical Networking's (News - Alert) FSP 3000 to support data center interconnectivity solutions for Indosat banking customers. The ADVA FSP 3000 provides high-capacity Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) core network connectivity for Indosat's interbank services, according to company officials.

“ADVA Optical Networking has already supported Indosat in providing the solution for enabling our interbank services. We hope that this current solution will increase the value that we bring to our customers and strengthen Indosat's position in the marketplace,” said Achmad Abimanyu, group head of customer solutions at Indosat in a statement.

With a little help from ADVA Optical Networking's local partner, PT. Kaliaren Jaya, Indosat has been able to deploy the ADVA FSP 3000 in its Jakarta headquarters to provide a “scalable and flexible DWDM core-network solution to connect its banking customers' geographically dispersed data centers in point-to-point network configurations.” The solutions can cover distances of 40km and 80km, offering 1G and 2G Fiber Channels, as well as Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

"ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 3000 solution provides Indosat with several product efficiencies that ultimately their banking customers benefit from," Erik Lindberg, vice president of sales Asia Pac,  ADVA Optical Networking, told TMCnet. "In a carrier environment, they are limited to the space on their racks.  ADVA’s FSP 3000 has a small footprint, that is scalable when growth is need, has redundant power to ensure it’s on always, and has proven interoperable with Indosat’s Storage Area Networking (SAN) systems.

Indosat can better address its customers’ banking requirements because of the ADVA FSP 3000's modular architecture, rack-mountable shelves, hot-swappable modules, universal cards, transparent interfaces and qualifications with all leading storage area network (SAN) vendors .

“ADVA Optical Networking's long history of providing data center connectivity solutions to financial customers has directly informed the ongoing refinement of our solution,” said Erik Lindberg, ADVA Optical Networking's vice president of sales for Asia-Pacific. “The FSP 3000 provides unmatched scalability, flexibility, security and reliability. For enterprises, that translates into valuable business benefits such as avoiding application downtime, avoiding data loss and achieving operational efficiencies. This has made ADVA Optical Networking a trusted partner in the data center environment for more than 15 years.”

When asked what makes the FSP 3000 stand apart from other technologies, Lindberg said, "The flexible FSP 3000 solution provides carriers and enterprise customers with the highest quality, lowest latency and maximum security solution over a single platform from access to core."

Indosat, a company that serves 45.7 million cellular subscribers, leverages its infrastructure of submarine and terrestrial fiber-optic, microwave, wireless and satellite networks to offer state-of-the-art connectivity solutions to customers in a wide array of industries including banking, manufacturing and energy.

Recently LightNet, an association of educational and research institutions in Italy's Trieste territory, also found a way to make use of the FSP 300. Earlier this month, LightNet deployed the ADVA FSP 3000 to enable the launch of a powerful, flexible and reliable telecommunications infrastructure. This infrastructure delivers the users’ extraordinary collaboration, medical and scientific capabilities.
