Three Florida Counties to Deploy EMBARQ E911 Network to Enhance Public Safety Services
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
EMBARQ has announced three counties in Florida selected its next generation E911 network. The deployment of the new services are expected to offer the counties regional interoperability for 911 call-delivery via MPLS and an easy migration path for delivering multi-media input streams into their PSAPs.
The counties of Lake, Okaloosa and Walton will be participating in the transition to the new E911 deployment by using State of Florida 911 grant.
“We are looking forward to working with an innovative provider willing to work on the cutting edge of E-911 technology,” said Michelle Gatlin, E911 Coordinator for Walton County. “EMBARQ is providing that solution.”
PSAPs are trying to promote interoperability among E-911 agencies and converged networks to optimize dispatcher efficiencies more cost effectively.
EMBARQ will provide the IP solutions including Multiple Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and other network features in order to achieve this.
“We offer a variety of network and equipment options, and we have a long and successful history of working with PSAPs to help them meet their public safety goals,” said Rob Roache, EMBARQ area vice president-sales.
“We’re especially pleased to work these innovative PSAPs in moving toward NextGen.”
Upon completion of the upgrades, the integrated network will be able to provide a more robust and integrated public safety solution with greater interoperability and survivability said Bruce Thorburn E911 director for Lake County.
EMBARQ has forged alliances with participating PSAPs and important vendors to enhance public safety. The public safety solution is intended to keep E-911 centers in a constant state of readiness. The interoperability of location-based services among PSAPs participating in the converged solution is expected to improve once the upgrades are complete said EMBARQ.
SolaCom has been selected by EMBARQ to provide the routing technology necessary for effectively routing legacy 911 calls and also its converged IP network calls to the appropriate PSAP agency.
