Indonesia-based AXIS said that it has selected AIRCOM in a bid to increase its penetration across the country.
Launched earlier this year in February, network operator AXIS has rolled out GSM cellular services across Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumatra. Currently, the company plans to expand its 2G and 3G networks to major market and population centers around Indonesia.
For this planned expansion, the company said that it has chosen CONNECT microwave planning tool from AIRCOM’s (News - Alert) ENTERPRISE suite.
With CONNECT, Company can get additional visibility across its microwave network. AXIS officials said that this means that they will be able to “rapidly” plan and optimize single or entire network links in both its 2G and 3G networks.
AXIS offices are located throughout Indonesia. Officials said due to this, an important requirement to support the network expansion was remote access. Single database of AIRCOM allows AXIS engineers to gain remote access from anywhere.
The remote access enables engineers to remove any discrepancies from transferring data between islands. Officials said that this offers AXIS the “clearest” view possible of its nationwide network.
AXIS required additional expertise that could help it to plan expansion quickly and that too without affecting the service provided to the existing customers, said Ikrema Hamzah, head of transmission planning at AXIS.
“As existing users of AIRCOMs radio planning tool, ASSET, we knew we could depend on AIRCOM to deliver a competitive, reliable solution,” said Hamzah.
Nick Brown, managing director for Asia Pacific at AIRCOM, said that the integration of CONNECT with the networks will enable AXIS to plan every minor detail of its expansion and drive efficiency by removing unnecessary costs.
Currently, the deployment of CONNECT into the AXIS network is underway. And engineer training is expected to be conducted later this month.
The UK-based AIRCOM is an independent network provider of network and data management tools and services. The company specializes in end-to-end network planning, sharing, outsourcing and OSS optimization for IP and cellular networks.
Earlier this week, Uganda based WARID Telecom selected AIRCOM to provide network planning and optimization support for its existing GSM and WiMAX (News - Alert) networks.
