Anite Launches Mobile WiMAX Host Tester

By Calvin Azuri

Anite, a provider of wireless mobile test and operational software to telecommunications manufacturers and wireless operators has announced the launch of a new Mobile WiMAX Host Tester for Mobile Station Stack developers and integrators. The Mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) Host Tester will allow a user to test the protocol stack in isolation of any hardware. Doing so provides benefits in development phases like pre-ASIC fabrication and SW regression testing.

The Host Tester also reduces the risk of multiple chipset development turns by correcting potential problems in the pre-silicon protocol development stage itself. Also, during the SW regression testing phase, HT can be used to test new SW updates in Host mode to isolate whether problems have been introduced on the hardware or software side.

The WiMAX MS-e HT from Anite (News - Alert) is used as the Host Tester application for development and testing based on MS 802.16e standards with MAC layer protocol.

To initiate the testing process, the simulated Physical layer of Anite needs to be integrated with the customer’s MAC layer through a user-defined protocol connection. The Mobile WiMAX Host Tester will then simulate the hardware and PHY layer functionality which is used to run TTCN test cases for testing a Mobile Station's MAC layer.

Protocol Conformance Testing (PCT), a certification requirement of Mobile WiMAX as defined by the WiMAX Forum (News - Alert), is supported by the Mobile WiMAX Host Tester which also supports data throughput testing and has loop-back functionality.

According to Vijay Harikumar, Director of Global Sales and Marketing at Anite, reducing the time to achieve product certification through effective testing is a critical factor for success in the evolving WiMAX ecosystem.
