Advantech Satellite Networks has announced that it entered into a technology partnership with O3b Networks Ltd., a new satellite operator in Jersey, Channel Islands.
Advantech (News - Alert) specializes in satellite-based DVB standardized communications technology and said it will build features into its SatNet DVB-S2/ACM platform. This will interoperate with O3b’s Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) Satellite Constellation allowing partners to access o3b’s satellite network.
O3b Networks will leverage the mobile dynamics of the MEO Constellation so service providers can connect directly to 3G, 4G and WiMAX (News - Alert) cell towers.
Advantech Satellite Networks’ technologies support mobility for applications in various sectors including maritime, military and defense. The software upgrade during this integration includes automatic satellite beam switching feature which enables the maintenance of seamless connectivity between the various satellites as they circle the earth by the SatNet remote.
“We believe our customers and solutions supporting global (DVB-RCS) standards can be paramount in serving the O3b community,” said Don Osborne, President of Advantech’s Satellite Networks division.
Advantech Satellite Networks provides broadband satellite communication systems, ground terminals and hub solutions and make use of international open standard DVB-RCS.
Advantech Satellite Networks also provides military compliant satellite communications systems which are employed in DoD-owned teleports and for foreign military establishments.
O3b Networks is involved in the building of a fiber-quality; satellite-based, global Internet backbone required by telecommunications operators (telcos) and Internet service providers (ISPs) in emerging markets. The company said the new network will be deployed fully by 2010 and it will facilitate global reach with speeds matching that of fiber-optic networks.
