Communications Bolstered by movingimage, Ramp Developments

Video is a major part of communications these days, and though some still view it as a luxury, anyone who's actually used it knows that it's quite a bit better to put a face to a voice where possible. That's fertile ground for movingimage and Ramp to move into, as the duo recently got together to announce developments that will not only improve video quality in intranet networks, but also reduce the bandwidth consumed in such activities by at least 90 percent.

The duo is especially well-suited for such developments; movingimage is a major name in secure video platforms for enterprise-grade users, while Ramp is focused on enterprise-grade video delivery systems. Such a combination could readily find a means to deliver better quality images at substantially less bandwidth, and that's just what happened when the duo combined two key communications tools.

Ramp brought in its AltitudeCDN multicasting and caching tools, to which movingimage added elements of its software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) enterprise video platform known as VideoManager Pro. The two together, with support from the Ramp OmniCache system, allows for better, faster access to video without the kind of bandwidth that was normally required to pull it up.

Essentially, thanks to all these separate components now working together, there's no need for redundant video traffic to move across the network when large numbers of users request the same video feed. The video can be delivered to all those users from the cache, which means less bandwidth pulled per user. Average that out over a large number of users and the bandwidth saved is phenomenal.

It's this combination of services working together that's producing some amazing results in communications. We know the value that video conferencing is producing in businesses worldwide; it's a great way to make a face-to-face—or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof—connection to other users, without having to incur the enormous expenses of business travel, so why not take advantage of it? Throw in the value of video within business for things like training purposes and corporate communications and it's easy to see why video is at a premium. Video requires bandwidth, though, and bandwidth is at a premium. Thus any savings on bandwidth translate into positive development for the business as a whole.

Doing more with less is the hallmark of great business everywhere. There's a clear value here to such measures, and the good news here is that companies like movingimage and Ramp are working to help make video more accessible without huge bandwidth costs.
