How did the line go? “Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.” Clearly Mr. Wonka (or Ogden Nash for that matter) wasn’t familiar with GENBAND (News - Alert) and the Kandy ecosystem. Kandy Platform-as-a-Service empowers service providers to deliver unique and innovative business and consumer applications. From APIs, SDKs and pre-built applications, Kandy (News - Alert) is capable of satiating any size sweet tooth. Today, the CPaaS offering announced a new addition to its inner workings: Dialogic’s Power Media XMS media server.

Power Media XMS enables Kandy to support a growing number of video interactions. This is more than simply video conferencing, as it includes recording, transcoding, Kandy Wrappers (GENBAND’s pre-built applications) and a number of video formats.

“With demand for video becoming a larger part of everyday life and seeing integrations into real time Web applications increase, it’s great to enhance our offerings with a scalable and flexible software-based media resource that supports the broad range of video codecs and use cases envisioned by developers,” said David Ittner, Vice President of Engineering for video applications at GENBAND. “By working with Dialogic (News - Alert) and PowerMedia XMS to further enrich our video media resources, we gained a technology partner with extensive video expertise, which helps to accelerate our development and reduce our time to market.”

The scalable, software-only media server empowers developers to create the next generation of real time applications fit for the enterprise, and including IMS, MRF and WebRTC. PowerMedia XMS can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud, and was developed on a foundation of over 15 years of software media processing experience. The award-wining solution already powers millions of rich media sessions for service providers, and GENBAND can gain peace of mind knowing it selected an industry leading solution to insert into the Kandy ecosystem.

“We share a vision with GENBAND of increasing adoption of video in a wide variety of applications, requiring unique expertise in software-based scalable video streaming, recording, and conversion,” noted Jim Machi, Senior VP of Product Management and Marketing at Dialogic.  “We are excited that Dialogic and the PowerMedia XMS software media server are a key part of the Kandy ecosystem and we see the combination as a significant differentiator for developers building innovative video-enabled applications based on Kandy.”

The face of communications applications is changing. First IM and BBM took hold, but over the years the evolution is moving in a far more seamless and immersive direction with video. The explosion of multimedia applications is ushering in a new era, with GENBAND and Dialogic happy to hold the door. Placing creativity at the helm, the sky’s the limit.

Stop dawdling, remember, this is a real time world…are your operations in real time? Or two steps behind?
