Businesses build or buy applications for myriad reasons. From customer engagement and the sales funnel to communication and collaboration, and beyond. The Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center App, developed by, garnered an Appy Award in the “Sports App” category for the real time fan experience enhancements it provides.

The App utilizes Flow and Backend to deliver real time updates to fans via real time APIs. Play by play info, team and player stats, shot charts and scores are all updated in real time, as the apps backend runs 1,500 automations per game, leveraging 10 unique APIs.

“Today's modern sports fans expect their experiences to be digital, smart and automated no matter where they watch the game,” said Neha Sampat, CEO, “With the Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center App, fans have everything they need to enjoy an intuitive experience, by accessing real-time information about essential functions – leading to a world-class fan experience.”

Engagement is the name of the game here; the application seamlessly integrates the digital and physical experience of attending an NBA game. The end result is a loyal customer base that takes full advantage of the new and improved event experience.

Kings Chief Technology Officer Ryan Montoya explained, “Through the app, fans are able to connect with enhanced arena features, engage with their friends, and create a seamless event experience from the time they wake up to when they leave the arena like never before.”

Communications applications are many and varied, and with a little creativity and knowhow the digital era can transform experiences, and effectively engage with users in a relevant, contextual and entertaining way. Sports are entertainment. So, if the product on the court is poor – the Kings were far from playoff contenders this past season – at least gives the fans a championship experience.
