There’s no question reaction time and time to market are critical to business success.  How quickly can you react to customer demands and needs?  How quickly can you adjust to market changes?  How long does it take you to identify and address issues that inevitably pop up? And, of course, how quickly are you able to develop and roll out new services and applications?  It’s all part of being an agile business.

Cloud and mobility, of course have everything to do with this business evolution, as does the growth of data parsing and analytics capabilities, especially data streaming solutions that allow real-time analytics and business intelligence built on massive volumes of live data.

But regardless of the volume of data, what happens next in the chain of events is really where the magic is happening.  What happens when that data is analyzed – whether it’s data aggregated from multiple sources, or from a single interaction with a single customer?  What we’ll see more and more of it artificial intelligence being used to quickly and predictably define the next business decision or action.

Look at customer service, for instance, as a form of syllogistic logic – if the customer clicks or says one thing, then this defined action should take place.  In today’s digital world, those actions are, more often than not, becoming small microapplications or microservices.  These are small, independently deployed modular applications that can be combined and with any other services in any sequence as defined logically by either human or artificial intelligence, using API calls to connect to and launch them.

TIBCO, which has already built a name around API management and an understanding that business agility is dependent upon a successful API-driven service structure, has now acquired nanoscale.io, which will help it reduce the complexities of developing in a microservices environment.   With TIBCO’s Mashery (News - Alert) platform and nanoscale.io’s microservices tooling capabilities, developers will be able to build these microservices and deploy them into any environment – mobile, cloud, on-premises, or edge.

The added agility businesses and developers will enjoy will effectively allow them to capitalize on the growing trend of serverless computing, where more and more processing is taking place at the network edge, thanks to streaming data and a Function-as-a-Service style of application deployment.
