SunGard Availability Services announced the expansion of its New York Metro area data center campus in order to meet the growing demands of colocation and managed services.
Company sources added that the expansion will enable customers to meet IT infrastructure demands with respect to IT infrastructure needs without spending on building and running their own data centers.
The SunGard data center enhancements are expected to cater to the needs of the New York Metro area companies, including financial services and healthcare firms that require optimal security, redundancy and cost-effective expansion capabilities as their IT requirements grow.
The data center is located in Carlstadt, NJ, and will help new and existing customers to maintain their long-term IT growth strategies and also offer them the infrastructure and availability capabilities for supporting virtualization initiatives.
In a press release, Patrick Doherty, chief marketing officer at SunGard Availability Services, said, “The expansion of our Carlstadt data center campus reflects SunGard’s continuous investment in people, technology and infrastructure to meet the demanding customer requirements of the New York Metro area.”
“With 660,000 sq. feet of available data center space and more than 2,000 workforce continuity seats on the Carlstadt campus, SunGard’s solutions help customers ensure the uptime of critical infrastructure,” Doherty added.
SunGard’s colocation and managed services will help customers to operate business systems and applications at a SunGard facility instead of in their own data centers. The solutions provided include hosting services, application services, e-mail and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services and replication services. These will serve organizations that need a secure, highly available and redundant IT environment.
According to company sources the expanded SunGard Carlstadt data center has added 12,000 square feet of raised floor for colocation and managed services with the capacity to add another 30,000 square feet when required. Besides, the facility upgrade also includes six megawatts of utility power, 2 N utility power redundancy for accessing power from separate utility substations and new UPS power systems.
The expanded Carlstadt data center will also support SunGard recovery and hotsite services besides the colocation and managed services. The facility includes workforce continuity seats which are fully equipped with the technology, office resources, infrastructure and amenities that are required in organizations to serve as alternate workspaces to staffers in case an outage occurs.Shamila Janakiraman is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
