Zayo Group (News - Alert), LLC, a provider of fiber-based Bandwidth Infrastructure services and carrier-neutral colocation and interconnection services, recently announced that it is set to acquire Litecast/Balticore LLC, a provider of metro Bandwidth Infrastructure services in Baltimore, Maryland, for a price of $22 million.

Zayo plans to strengthen its fiber network in the greater Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. The agreement will allow Zayo to provide Bandwidth Infrastructure products to Litecast customers across its regional, national and international fiber networks as well.

"Given its geography and product offering, Litecast is a natural extension of Zayo's recent acquisition of FiberGate," says Dan Caruso (News - Alert), president and CEO at Zayo Group. "The acquisition completes a very compelling set of fiber assets in the increasingly important Baltimore-Washington metropolitan market."

Litecast has designed, constructed and currently leases a high-capacity, high-bandwidth dark fiber-optic network in Baltimore. With the strategic placement of 40 actual redundant fiber miles within the city, customers are instantly able to connect to Baltimore's most important points of communication.

Zayo serves wireline and wireless carriers, data centers, Internet content and services companies, high-bandwidth enterprises, and federal, state and local government agencies. The firm provides these services over metro, metro, national, international and fiber-to-the-tower networks.

With its acquisitions of USCarrier, FiberGate and AboveNet, Zayo's network includes 67,000 route miles, serving 45 states and Washington, D.C. Its network serves approximately 10,300 on-net buildings, including 510 data centers, 510 carrier PoPs and 2,600 cell towers.

Zayo's colocation assets include 136,000 billable square feet of interconnect-focused colocation space.

Recently, Zayo Group successfully deployed 100G wavelength services across major markets in the U.S. This new deployment will enable Zayo customers to benefit from cost-efficient, high-bandwidth services between major U.S. markets.

In addition, customers can utilize this new platform to keep up with growing bandwidth needs and provide operational and cost efficiencies over previous platforms.
