Schneider Electric (News - Alert), a specialist in energy management, has unveiled a data center infrastructure management (DCIM) application known as StruxureWare Data Center Operation for Co-location.

Incorporated within the StruxureWare Data Centers Software Suite, the new DCIM application can optimally serve data centers with multiple tenants. The application helps in optimizing data center equipment and space by delivering real-time status updates on data center capacities such as data center power, cooling and available space.

These updates help multi-tenant data center providers and managers make informed decisions and are useful for wholesale, retail, managed hosting and cloud providers. Besides, the application gives insights into usage and availability on a tenant level enabling detailed chargeback for power and integrated tenant billing and support, said officials.

Soeren Brogaard Jensen, VP of solution software at Schneider, said, “This DCIM solution identifies available cage and rack space and has the ability to integrate tenant billing.”

The space and cage management capabilities allow data center operators to apply grid-based naming for floor mount equipment, utilize cage drawing tools and cage power modeling, and helps them visualize the solution in 3D.

Using the integrated tenant billing feature, users can import tenant and billing account data from the CRM system into the DCIM system for mapping tenant assets. This provides details like power draw and total energy footprint besides giving access to an instant impact analysis at the tenant level.  

The DCIM software streamlines facility maintenance scheduling delivering a complete audit trail on all facility equipment and cages besides helping in creating and maintaining schedules by equipment.  The measured cage power statistic gives an easy overview of sold and measured power, said officials.

Using the space capacity reports, users can get an instant overview of current space capacities, besides being able to detect space as sellable, occupied, reserved or internally used. The computer aided design (CAD) integration automatically converts CAD cage drawings into a DCIM model.

Recently, OSIsoft, provider of the PI System, a infrastructure technology for the management of real-time data and events, and Schneider Electric announced a strategic technology agreement to provide an innovative and comprehensive energy management solution. The joint solution combines Schneider Electric’s energy management expertise with the streaming data and event management capabilities of OSIsoft’s PI System.
