QLogic Marrying the Complexities of Cloud and Enterprise

Just as several companies take it upon themselves to build parts for the Jeeps, Porsches and Infinities out there, QLogic hangs its hat on building parts for computer companies.

“The goal of the company is to provide a flexible infrastructure,” Rob Davis, vice president and chief technology officer at QLogic, told TMCnet at Cloud Expo East 2012 in New York this morning. “What we do is we try to help our customers and we focus on large OEMs. Our value proposition is to allow them to differentiate their products by customizing our infrastructure components. All of them use Intel (News - Alert) as their processors so it’s about how do they differentiate their Intel from the other guy’s Intel. Our focus in on the I/O.”

“This is important because the margin is not in reselling Intel but in the value they add versus what their competitor adds,” Davis said. “What we do is allow them to customize the I/O that will give them an advantage or a different feature, or whatever that particularly value that they are looking to provider for their customers.”

QLogic, a provider of data, server, and storage networking infrastructure solutions, aims its solutions at the large OEM who is looking to migrate to the cloud and enjoy both Ethernet and Fibre solutions. The company has emerged as a global leader and technology innovator for high performance networking, including adapters, switches and ASICs. OEMs and channel partners worldwide rely on QLogic products for their data, storage and server networking solutions.

While at Cloud Expo East this week, QLogic is looking to exhibit its expertise by presenting a panel discussion called “Enabling Next Generation IO Architecture for Big Data,” a session that will shed light on the fact that Big Data is already impacting storage and networking architecture in data centers and how you build optimized storage and networking infrastructure for the future. QLogic will also explain how to leverage cloud storage while maintaining iSCSI and Fibre Channel local storage infrastructure.

The session, taking place at 9:55 a.m. EST on Thursday, June 14, will feature Ilker Cebeli, director of cloud computing at QLogic. Cebeli, who worked at Intel for 15 years prior to joining QLogic, is responsible for leading and directing the cloud strategy, growth, and product roadmaps of the company. He has spent over 20 years in enterprise computing, storage and networking working in various roles as a strategist, engineering management, and technologist.

For QLogic, the session will not only give company officials a chance to demo its offerings but also help assure OEMs that storage and big data are manageable.

“The enterprise looks at storage a whole lot differently than cloud does,” Davis said. “They both use different technologies. The cloud is based on Ethernet technology and the enterprise on Fibre. Our offerings convert from Fibre technology to Ethernet technology. The complexity of the enterprise and the complexity of the cloud are mitigated or taken care of by our device. For a guy who is used to being an IT manager in the enterprise world they typically are older and the guys that are in the cloud are younger and the two don’t necessarily understand each other’s worlds and our device tries to work both sides of the story.”
