Belden announced the launch of variable frequency drive (VFD) cables in the 250 MCM, 350 MCM and 500 MCM sizes. The company specializes in making signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications.
The company manufactures and markets cable, connectivity and networking products for industrial automation, education, healthcare, entertainment and broadcast, sound and security, enterprise, transportation, infrastructure and consumer electronics markets.
The extension of the line of MCM VFD cables was initiated to support installations of up to 250 horsepower motors at 460V. These cables find application in critical sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, water/wastewater treatment and other industrial environments.
Officials clarified in a release that the Belden MCM VFD cables were suitable for exposed-run cable trays, direct burial and for use in wet or dry conditions. They also serve the purposes optimally in noise-sensitive applications and in damp or wet environments. In these conditions, reflected wave voltages may degrade PVC/nylon conductors.
Belden cables also serve all variable frequency drives and can be used as a shielded power cable in several solid-state devices. The optimum electrical performance and reliability displayed by the VFD cables make them suitable for various applications. They reduce facility energy consumption and operating costs.
VFDs occasionally produce too much noise, especially electromagnetic interference (EMI). In most cases, they’re operated in close proximity to sensitive instruments, critical networks and safety systems. In those scenarios, correct cable selection for cables designed to connect to VFDs are needed to reduce adverse effects on nearby cable systems. This in turn helps control cable or motor failure, officials said.
Belden’s MCM VFD cables can offer common mode current protection and hence can help in safeguarding a system against damage from reflected wave voltages.
Designed for safety and reliability, the Belden MCM VFD cables include symmetric bare grounds and dual copper tape shield.
Belden also announced the release of new low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) jackets for some of its most popular and reliable standard cables. The environmentally-friendly cables are an extension of the company’s GreenChoice solutions for customers looking for green alternatives to traditional products.
