Infinera (News - Alert), a company that specializes in digital optical networking systems, has announced the launch of DTN-X platform, a platform that provides world's first 500 gigabit per second (Gb/s) long-haul FlexCoherent super-channels.

The Infinera DTN-X P-OTN platform combines scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network into the terabit age as it is created upon the design principles of the successful Infinera DTN platform. The DTN-X delivers the next step function in optical networking, offering large scale Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC), built-in OTN (ITU G.709) switch with 1Gb/s granularity and GMPLS based network intelligence that enables dynamically protected mesh networks.

Allowing operators to optimize their fiber assets, scale to 1Tb/s of slot capacity and 5 Tb/s per bay today and to 10 Tb/s per bay and 100Tb/s in a multi-bay configuration in the future, the DTN-X was designed with investment protection in mind, including programmable coherent technology. Also, this converged DWDM transport, OTN switching and future MPLS switching platform consumes less power and less space, the company stated in a press release.

“While our competitors talk about their roadmaps for metro 400 Gb/s super-channels, Infinera is delivering the industry's first 500 Gb/s long haul FlexCoherent super-channels," said Dave Welch, co-founder, EVP and CSO at Infinera. "With DTN-X, we are also bringing the largest capacity OTN switch to market and delivering the industry's first deployable FlexCoherent capability. Infinera delivers on the capabilities that help service providers scale, simplify and make their networks more efficient to lower overall lifecycle TCO.”

Recently, TMC (News - Alert) reported that the company released guidelines for examining advanced optical transport network architectures, known as the network Efficiency Quotient (EQ). Network EQ will let network operators to study the increasing causes of architectural assessments on the total cost of ownership. Infinera has also released two applications, the EQ Estimator and EQ Power Analyzer, which will assist in the speedy estimation and analysis of transport network EQ.
