The dark fiber community continues to generate new fiber-based services and products to keep the momentum going. This past week news makers in the dark fiber space were Hudson Fiber Network, Cross River Fiber, Azzurro HD, Fibernetics, Exalt (News - Alert) Communications, XO Communications, Infracom and Infinera.
To enable connectivity between NYSE’s Mahwah, NJ data center and three other financial locations in Secaucus, Newark and Carteret, Hudson Fiber Network (HFN) partnered with Cross River Fiber. Recently, NYSE announced that the Mahwah data center will be opened to outside carriers serving the financial trading community. The carriers now have easy access to three key financial hubs at the fastest speeds available via the Mahwah route, wrote TMCnet contributor Nathesh. HFN partnership with Cross River Fiber gives customers a variety of choices to pick from, including dark fiber, lit services and passive wave circuits along the new routes.
While broadcast-quality video transmission services provider, Azzurro HD, leveraged Northeast metro fiber and bandwidth provider Lightower Fiber Networks’ new Ultimate Media Platform to power Azzurro’s all digital switching and transport solutions for uncompressed HD video.
According to Azzurro, Lightower’s new Ultimate Media Platform provides best-in-class, fiber-based video transport services at over 30 venues, broadcast centers and video distribution facilities throughout the New York City and New Jersey area.
The New York-based video transmission services provider said the Ultimate Media Platform supports a variety of compressed or uncompressed video formats including ASI, SDI, HD/SDI and JPEG2000. And also offers protect path options and 24/7 service monitoring, year-round, from Lightower’s geographically diverse Network Operation Centers. The report indicated that
Azzurro will apply the Lightower platform throughout the New York City and New Jersey area for current and future video customers.
Fibernetics’ recently announced NEWT solution is being used by more than 1,000 businesses across Canada. And is reportedly helping companies save up to 50 to 80 percent on their monthly telecommunications serviced. According to the report, NEWT managed PBX, which can be described as a hybrid or network-based solution, overcomes the limits of both hosted and premises-based PBX technology. NEWT is installed across the Fibernetics CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) carrier network.
XO Communications (News - Alert) has selected Transmode (News - Alert)`s TM-Series CWDM and DWDM carrier-class optical transport products for metro capacity expansion across XO’s nationwide network. To support XO Communications` capabilities, including training, installation and ongoing technical support, Transmode will also offer a complete services package. The new deployments with XO Communications will commence immediately, wrote Shanbhag.
Similarly, contributor Anil Sharma reported that Italy based Infracom has selected optical transport equipment from Ekinops to further improve its metro and access networks.
Ekinops is a supplier of next generation optical transport equipment for telecommunications service providers. Officials with Ekinops said that the company’s 360 transport system allows service providers to optimize the aggregation and transport of a broad range of service types and rates. Thanks to this capability, Infracom will now be able to provide additional service offerings to its end customers while optimizing the bandwidth utilization of its core network, wrote Sharma.
Lastly, digital optical networking systems developer Infinera announced the launch of a 500 Gbps long-haul FlexCoherent super-channels, called DTN-X platform. The report indicates that Infinera’s (News - Alert) DTN-X P-OTN platform combines scale, simplicity and efficiency of the digital optical network with the terabit age to deliver the next step function in optical networking.
