Zhone Technologies (News - Alert), Inc. recently announced that its MXK platform has been selected for deployment by Cherokee Communications. The Zhone MXK platform will help Cherokee Communications expand and enhance its network and help it in optimizing the delivery of triple-play services to both residential and business customers. Leveraging the feature rich MXK solution, Cherokee Communications will also be able to unify data, video, and voice over a single platform over a pure packet access network.

In a release, Samuel Sanchez, operations manager at Cherokee Communications, said that, "For our growing business, we needed an access vendor with effective network management capabilities. The increased density, scale and performance provided by the Zhone MXK and zNID Optical Network Terminals ONTs, allow us to simplify our network complexity and address any challenges.”

Adding, “The primary reason we chose the Zhone solution was its ability to provide multiple services on a single platform, including Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM). This network upgrade allows us to provide advanced communications and connectivity to our residential and business customers."

Cherokee Communications' expanding customer base has placed immense pressure on the company to address growing connectivity demands. The Zhone MXK platform has been designed as a flexible and highly scalable solution capable of delivering Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and VDSL2 connectivity to support both network and service upgrades.

Integration of the VDSL2 interfaces within the platform will enable the company in delivering bandwidth speeds of up to 100Mbps, which means customers of Cherokee will be able to enjoy wire-speed gigabit connectivity. Furthermore, with the derived POTS lines, Cherokee will be able to operate a low-cost packet network while offering its subscribers POTS service.

Capabilities of the MXK solution were an ideal fit with the network connectivity and service requirements of Cherokee Communications which enabled Zhone to optimize on the service provider’s cost efficiency and enhance the service differentiation in the operator's network with the installation of zNID ONTs.
