Patton (News - Alert) Electronics, a producer of network access and connectivity products, has reportedly placed orders for CopperLink CL1314R Ruggedized Ethernet Extender and CL1314MDE Ruggedized Multi-Drop Ethernet Extender and Repeater.

The new products are capable of linking Ethernet LANs up to 4.26 miles apart in harsh environments and are stated to be ideal for railways, highways, campus or stadium security systems, industrial automation, SCADA and device networks.

Patton explained that its CopperLink Ethernet extension solutions can be used to extend Ethernet services to one’s users located far beyond distance limitations. With Patton's Ethernet Extender solutions, they can extend long-range Ethernet over existing voice-grade copper wiring, up to five miles over a single twisted pair.

According to the company, the CL1314 devices are integrated with plug-and-play installation with standard RJ45 connectors, which allows deployment for serial-to-IP migration, converting copper-based RS-232, RS-485 or RS-422 data transmission circuits to Ethernet IP – without installing new Ethernet wiring.

The Patton CL1314 sports a built-in four-port Ethernet switch interface crossover capability (auto-MDIX), enabling users to connect up to four Ethernet devices. The auto-MDIX automatically configures the signaling to match the polarity on the cable; no user-configuration is required.

Some of the notable features of the ruggedized CL1314R Ethernet extender are: high speed extension; multi-rate selection; CopperLink 2-wire connection; extended temperature; ruggedized aluminum enclosure meets IP40 specifications; transparent LAN bridging; automatic learning, aging and filtering; and more.

Patton apparently coined the term “Multi-Drop Ethernet” to describe its most recent innovation in Ethernet Extension technology – the model CL1314MDE Ruggedized Multi-Drop Ethernet Extender and Repeater. The CL1314MDE delivers four auto-sensing full/half duplex 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports presented on RJ45 connectors.

Recently, Patton unveiled BODi rS wireless internet line-bonding router, and launched Redirection Service for customers.
